Farmland Preservation and Working Lands Initiative

ATCP 49:  Farmland Preservation Program rule  

The Wisconsin Working Lands Initiative was signed into law in 2009 and is comprised of the following three programs:
  • Farmland Preservation Program
  • Agricultural Enterprise Area (AEA) Program
  • Purchase of Agricultural Conservation Easement (PACE) Program
The Working Lands Initiative was developed with the assistance of the Working Lands Steering Committee.

    Biennial Program Reports
    Under Wisconsin Act 28, DATCP, in cooperation with the Wisconsin Department of Revenue, must report to the Board of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection and the Department of Administration on farmland preservation by Dec. 31, 2011 and biennially thereafter.

    Transfer of Development Rights -- Recorded November 13, 2014
    TDR is a tool that local governments can use to protect farmland while encouraging nonagricultural development in places where it is more compatible. A TDR is enacted by local ordinance.
