The TJX Companies, Inc. reports an unauthorized intrusion into a computer system containing consumer’s financial information.

Hackers broke into a system that stores financial information for consumers in the U.S. and Puerto Rico. Overall, potentially millions of consumers that shop at any of the TJX affiliate stores and pay by debit or credit card may be at risk. Individuals that have provided personal information for the purpose of merchandise return are also vulnerable. TJX Companies operating in Wisconsin are T.J.Maxx, Marshalls and A.J. Wright.

The TJX Companies are investigating how widespread this incident is and will be notifying all affected individuals in the coming weeks. TJX has established a special helpline for its customers who have questions about this situation. Customers may reach the helpline toll-free at 866-484-6978 in the United States or on its website, www.tjx.com.

If you are identified as one of the affected individuals, you should do the following:

  • Carefully review account statements and immediately notify credit or debit card company or bank if suspect fraudulent use.
  • Close the account involved in the breach.
  • Request a credit report and place a fraud alert on your credit report.
